Handheld Vacuum Cleaners
Cordless Hand Held Vacs Are Convenient, Lightweight and Powerful
There’s good reason why we like hand vacuums so much. When we need to clean an area that’s difficult to reach, we want to do the cleaning job fast. The vacuum should be small, lightweight and easy to access. But, the machine should be as effective as it is quick.
So which features do we look for and what model do we choose? Is it the cordless model with a rechargeable stick? Customer reviews help with their opinions as we also try to compare prices. Since brands vary in quality and reliability, we set out to discover the better hand held vacuums on the market.
And of course, you want to pay the lowest price and get outstanding performance at the same time. You can look up some of the better deals from online retailers to find the handheld vac (wet or dry) to fit your needs and clean your floors.
Eureka 71B Hand-Held
Given it’s size, this unit delivers a lot of power. You can clean the upstairs carpet or walk outside to your car without the problem of carrying a full size vacuum cleaner. And for hard to reach spots, the Eureka 71B has a very long cord that measures 20 feet. And the hose actually stretches out to almost 3 times it’s normal length. As the case with bagless models, this one uses a filter and dust cup. Just shake out the filter when it gets dirty. There’s no bag to change.
The 71B vac has two motors, one for the revolving brush. And a second for the powerful 5.5 amp suction. We find that cleaning carpeted stairs a snap using the “riser visor”.
If you have pets, you’ll be amazed at the volume of cat or dog hair this small machine will pick up. Try it on your sofa or couch and you’ll see what we’re talking about.
Black & Decker PHV1800CB Cordless Vac
Once you use a cordless hand vac, it’s really hard to go back to other models that have a cord attached to the unit. The Black and Decker 18 volt Pivot Vac is one of our favorites. The Cylconic technology generates considerable power. And the convenience is made even better with the pivoting nozzle that provides 10 different positions. The nozzle can be extended to get into small spaces that collect difficult to remove dirt.
The PHV1800CB is so compact that it can be folded in half when it’s not in use and placed in your storage closet. And when the filter collects too much dirt, the wheel system is quickly cleaned.
Save on power usage by changing over to the second speed. This allows the hand held vacuum to operate at a slower speed to conserve energy.
This Black & Decker model (not dustbuster) has been favorably compared to a full size Dyson by some of the customer reviews. Although the smaller, cordless handheld vacuum makes more noise, it’s suction power and pickup is comparable to the Dyson (and some say dirt devil as well).
Upcoming reviews will focus on the Dirt Devil Kone, Bissell, Hoover and Electrolux. And for allergies, HEPA filters should be considered too.
